Cashew nuts are harvested from the cashew tree (Anacardium occidentale), and the shells are a byproduct of the cashew nut processing industry. CNSL resin is extracted from the oil-rich liquid present in the cashew nut shells. It is a dark brown viscous liquid that consists of various components, including phenolic compounds such as cardol and cardanol.
